Candles, Cake, and Corporate Success: The Power of Celebrating our Wins

Celebrating birthdays and anniversaries in the workplace can profoundly affect a company's success.

Acknowledging any victory, regardless of its size, plays a crucial role.

Such celebrations enhance team morale, solidify interpersonal relationships, and augment job satisfaction, culminating in improved employee retention rates.

Steve cordially invites you to partake in a 40-minute training session.

This session aims to teach you how to devise and implement a short-term improvement plan tailored to address areas of weakness, solve existing problems, or seize potential opportunities.

Recent Committee Activities

Building Codes and Standards Committee

Committee Chair Jack Butler is appearing in front of the Florida Building Commission's Admin Technical Advisory Committee, asking for a non-binding advisory opinion regarding the local amendments adopted by Broward County, FL.

Broward has adopted a code other than the Florida Building Code, the South Florida Building Code, which precludes our unlicensed members from practicing their profession.

Jack also confirmed that the International Code Council concurs with AIBD's interpretation of the two key phrases that have caused licensure issues across the country, which are in the same sentence of the IRC: “special conditions” and “additional construction documents.”

Anticipating getting nowhere with the Florida Building Commission, Jack has contacted the authors of Florida House Bills 267 and 481, asking if they would be willing to amend their legislation to include definitions for "Local Administrative Amendments," "Special Conditions," and "Residential Design Professional."

CLICK HERE for a preview of Jack's report to be presented to the Board of Directors this Wednesday.

Conference Committee

Chairman Ted Hake presented the proposed contract for the 2024 AIBD Annual Meeting and Design & Build Conference venue. After carefully reviewing the agreement submitted by the Embassy Suites San Antonio Riverwalk-Downtown, committee members Traci Kelley and Brandon Clokey recommend its approval.

The staff is seeking a few more minor tweaks and clarifications. The Board of Directors will consider the final proposed contract on Wednesday. The tentative dates are July 25-27, 2024, with the ARDA Dinner at the event's conclusion on Saturday, July 27

Have a triumphant week!

Hello Reader, Today, we honor a timeless element of architecture and design - the tile. According to TraditionalBuilding.com, the art of tilemaking has ancient origins, dating back to the 4th century BC in the Holy Lands. This craft was later adopted by the Romans, who introduced it to Europe. In the 8th and 9th centuries, the Uighur people of northwest China developed what later influenced 13th-century Turkish and Middle Eastern tiles, renowned for their geometric symmetry and botanical...

Hello Reader, You know how low-slope roofs are supposed to be snow magnets? Well, turns out it's not that simple. We've got a lot more to learn. This February, the A-Team is inviting you to crash our watch party. We're diving into 'Snow Retention for Low-Slope Roofs', a rad course brought to us by AIBD CEP - Ron Blank & Associates, on behalf of Anchor Products. A watch party isn't just about kicking back and having fun (although there's plenty of that). It's about creating a space where we...

On this day in 1885, the world’s tallest obelisk was dedicated. This day had been a long time coming–surprisingly so, considering that a monument dedicated to the first US president seems like a no-brainer, and a desire for one certainly had a lengthy history. Calls for such a monument dated to the late eighteenth century and revved up after Washington’s death in 1799. But it took until the mid-1830s for a competition to be launched. Robert Mills, who made a career out of big public...
