In August 2024, sales of new single-family homes reached a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 716,000. This figure represents a 4.7% decrease from the revised July rate of 751,000. However, it's encouraging to note that it's 9.8% higher than the August 2023 estimate of 652,000.

The unfortunate truth is that Americans are increasingly unable to avoid these natural catastrophes. Both the frequency and severity of these weather events have increased. Americans need flood insurance, and their homes need to be more resilient.
