Important cost savings deadlines!

We are approaching the deadline to get in on the AIBD Design & Build Summer Conference hotel block.

Find the hotel information on the conference registration page and book your room before the price goes up.

P.S. It can be a bit tricky for companies when holidays land in the middle of the week.

The challenge arises during those in-between days, it may be difficult to reach some A-Team members beyond just Thursday this week.

Your patience is appreciated, as we'll be fully back in action next Monday.

Recent Committee Activities

SkillsUSA Architectural Drafting Technical Committee

It was another banner year for SkillsUSA and industry trades in general. The Committee recently hosted the National Architectural Drafting Competition as a part of SkillsUSA's Nationa Leadership & Skills Conference in Atlanta, GA. 41 high school and 16 college students competed for Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals in each category.

Visit AIBD.org/SkillsUSA to view all the entries (the winners are identified).

It couldn't have been done without an AWESOME group of industry judges.

We thank the following dedicated professionals who set aside an afternoon and evening to judge all 57 entries.

  • David Blay, FAIBD
  • Kara Desaro, FAIBD
  • David Ecenrode
  • Mike Keesee
  • Tracy Moller
  • David Pillsbury, FAIBD

Volunteer for a Committee

The 2024-2025 AIBD Board of Directors formally began their terms at the June meeting. Many new board members chose to lead a committee (or two), and now they're seeking your participation. Check out the opportunities and let them know you're interested.

Have a triumphant week.

Hello Reader, On Monday, Steve Mickley shared how one sentence in his agreement helped him collect an unpaid invoice in hours. If you missed it, check it out (00:01:46): That's only one example of how a well-structured contract can save time and money. Here's another, more unusual, scenario. What if your client asks you to design a whole-house remodel, expecting the new insulation, appliances, windows, and HVAC system to lower their electric bill, but the opposite happens? How is that...

The ceiling of The Campbell in Grand Central Station.

Although Jupiter is paradise (#ILiveWhereYouVacation), it's pretty homogenous outside of the AIBD Office. We don't have much of an art culture. All of the music is either Country or something like Rock-Reggae (not like The Police but like Sublime). All of the buildings, houses or otherwise, pretty much all look the same.
